Snow Day

Oh! the snow, the beautiful snow, Filling the sky and earth below, Over the housetops, over the street, Over the heads of the people you meet...

J.W. (Joseph Warren) Watson

Ayden loves the outdoors. It didn't bother her one bit that it was snowing and her shoes were getting wet in the slushy mess. She liked the way it gently crunched under her weight as she stepped on it. She would look back at her tracks and point. "Ohhh," she would say in awe. The cold didn't bother her one bit. She yelped in excitement at the flakes falling around her. "Oh!" she exclaimed at a clump of snow that fell off the wall before us. "Oh!" she exclaimed at the steam rising from the hot tub. "Ohhh," she said at a car passing by. However, she didn't know exactly what to make of the snowman her uncle built in the drive. She just stood by it quietly; and squatted in the snow, which almost reached her knees at this point.

The snow melted under our feet, wetting my socks trhough my shoes. My toes were freezing,as I am sure hers were, so I took her inside. The angry toddler threw a tantrum on the entryway floor. I struggled to close the front door with her in the way. She ran back to the window, where we had been watching the snow fall prior to our short excursion, and started barking at it once more. "woof, woof, ooohhhh," she chanted. I'm not sure what the "woof-woof" is about, but she was really impressed with the white flurries delicately cascading outside. Too bad we dont get snow more often in Central Texas-- it is really beautiful.
