Honkey

Mid morning: At the mailbox: My back is toward the street in front of our house.

"Look, Mommy, that honkey is watching us!" Ayden says excitedly, pointing across the street at the neighbor's yard. My eyes widen a little. She is LOUD. I look around to see that none of our neighbors overheard her.

Knowing that I have never taught her that word, I turn to face the yard in front of us.

"Shhh," I urge her.

"You see the Honkey, Mommy?" she asks me, even louder.

"Hush, girl, that's a D-D-Donkey, with a 'D'," I tell her, still checking that no one was outside to witness this mispronunciation.
